Des Moines metro’s newest shopping center will open in exactly one year — guaranteed.

The last load-bearing beam at the Outlets of Des Moines project in Altoona was put in place this week, which signals the project’s skeleton structure is in place. Workers have started enclosing three of the outlet’s planned nine buildings, said Mike Barelli, vice president of New England Development, the Boston-based company building the outlet mall. Outlets of Des Moines Takes Shape as Steel Erection Work Begins

The Des Moines region’s first outlet mall is now clearly visible from Interstate 80 and Highway 65 as construction crews erect steel at Outlets of Des Moines a New England Development project. The construction at Outlets of Des Moines will support approximately 500 jobs. Crews are approximately halfway through pouring foundations for the center’s nine buildings, and steel erection for two of the buildings is underway.  Continue reading…

City of Altoona issues $53 million in construction permits for over 400,000 square-feet of space.

As of July 31, the City of Altoona has issued a total of 139 building permits. This represents over $53 million in permit valuation and over 400,000 square-feet of new or improved space. By comparison, on July 31, 2015 the City had issued permits for $23 million and 194,000 square-feet, showing an increase of 124% in valuation and 105% in square-feet of space. Continue reading…
